GEOGRID-3D Geocells from Terakon, provide an effective above-ground, no-dig construction solution for tree root protection enabling the installation of road surfaces and driveways. In 2007, the Arboricultural Advisory and Information Service published Arboricultural Practice Note 12 (APN12) which advised that a driveway can only be installed within a root protection area, provided the tree roots and surrounding soil are not disturbed. An above-ground, no-dig method of construction is required. The British Standards Institutions goes on to recommend the use of a three-dimensional cellular confinement system to help achieve this such as GEOGRID-3D.

Delivered in collapsed, lightweight panels, GEOGRID-3D is expanded on site to the required shape and size and pinned in place ready to be filled with sand or aggregates to suit. A shallow, permeable, sub-base level is formed above ground ready for the construction of road or parking areas. When subjected to heavy loads, weight is spread laterally ensuring that the earth beneath is not compacted. Without this, tree roots could be starved of oxygen and moisture leading to damage and possible loss of the tree. Easily dismantled after use making it ideal for temporary road surfaces.
